RE: 2016 Kitchener Twilight Grand Prix

Cycle Waterloo partnering with the Waterloo Cycling Club, has been very proud to host the Kitchener Twilight Grand Prix as a national cycling criterium in 2015. Plans were well underway and everyone was looking forward to hosting the event in 2016. Unfortunately, we must announce that the 2016 Kitchener Twilight Grand Prix is now cancelled due to Light Rail Transit (LRT) construction in the core of Kitchener.

Cycle Waterloo worked diligently with the City of Kitchener to find a solution around all of the LRT construction searching for alternative routes but the LRT construction has caused major disruption to the downtown city core and we have no choice but to cancel the 2016 event. Enclosed is a letter from the Mayor of Kitchener, Berry Vrbanovic, explaining the situation and confirming their commitment and support to a KTGP in 2017.

We appreciate all of the support and effort the City of Kitchener has given Cycle Waterloo & the Waterloo Cycling Club in attempting to find a solution but the construction challenges in the core have proved too difficult so we will postpone the event until 2017.

Cycle Waterloo looks forward to hosting the KTGP in the City of Kitchener’s downtown core in 2017. We are excited to have the support of the city and look forward to hosting it again in 2017 as a National criterium.

Sincerely,

Blake Ellis
